Last night (5th July 2007), the Birmingham Bites Restaurant Awards took place in front
of a star studded VIP audience at the Lloyds TSB CarSelect sponsored Taste of
Birmingham, Cannon Hill Park. Supported by the Birmingham Post and Mail, the awards
were hosted by celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson and Heart FM presenters Ed
James and Sarah-Jane Mee.
A glamorous host of celebrities including Olympic gold medallist, Denise Lewis, celebrity
chef Aldo Zilli and legendary musician Roy Wood presented awards such as Best
Newcomer, Best Service and Outstanding Personal Contribution to the great and the
good of Birmingham’s foodie world.
Here are those crowned winners last night:
- Best Family Restaurant presented by Aldo Zilli awarded to Cielo
- Best Service presented by Glenn Sturley (Lloyds TSB CarSelect) awarded to Bank
- Best Business Lunch presented by Neil Rami (Marketing Birmingham) awarded to
Hotel du Vin
- Best Wine List presented by Trevor Francis awarded to Opus
- Best Out of Town Restaurant presented by Olivia Harris (BrindleyPlace) awarded to Mallory Court
- Best Newcomer presented by Big Brother 2006 finalist, Nikki Grahame awarded to
Asha’s
- Rising Star Award presented by BBC Doctors actor, Donnaleigh Bailey awarded to Craig Gent from Opus
- Best Restaurant of 2007 presented by Roy Wood awarded to Simpsons
- Award for Outstanding Personal Contribution presented by Denise Lewis awarded to Eddie McIntyre, principle of Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies
Neil Rami, Chief Executive, Marketing Birmingham, commented:
