Birmingham on the big screen
Birmingham has hit the big screen at Event UK. Birmingham Convention Bureau (BCB) premiered it's new film about the city during the two day event trade show at the NEC.
The film, called Meet Birmingham, was created by BCB to take Birmingham to audiences everywhere. The film is a five minute snap shot of the city’s business and leisure offering and will be shown to event and conference organisers, investors and stakeholders in order to attract business to the city.
Meet Birmingham includes footage of the city's hotels, restaurants, open spaces and event venues including The ICC and NIA. Birmingham International Airport, universities and football stadiums also feature as well as top attractions including National Sea Life Centre, Town Hall, The Mailbox and, further afield, Warwick Castle.
Dave Hodgson, marketing director at Marketing Birmingham, says: “There are still people who may hold outdated perceptions of the city and the best way to change those is for them to experience modern Birmingham for themselves.
"Meet Birmingham shows venues, heritage, public squares, shopping, hotels, entertainment zones, regeneration, and the many other elements that together make Birmingham and the West Midlands region what it is.
“We will showcase the film across the globe to raise the profile of Birmingham as an international events city, to celebrate our recent successes and to increase awareness of the services that Birmingham Convention Bureau offers to organisers. This will help Birmingham to continue to attract major high profile events that bring new visitors and significant economic impact to the city.”
Local band Bridge 55 provided the soundtrack to the film with their song ‘Something in Common’.
Joe Karchud, lead singer of the band says: “It was great fun playing a starring role in the Meet Birmingham film. As proud Midlands lads we’re keen to showcase Birmingham to as many people as possible, and reckon the film will do just that.
"We had a good reception to our performance of the film’s title song at Event UK – who knows - this could be the first of many gigs at the NEC."
The film is part of BCB’s new marketing campaign and will be showcased at shows and exhibitions across the UK and worldwide to encourage people to do business in the city.
