Birmingham is packed full of fun events this October

October may be the month of spooks and spectres but there are plenty of fantastic Birmingham attractions that are safe for the fainthearted! There’s a host of brilliant events in the city throughout the month and parents will have no trouble entertaining their little monsters during the half term break.

Cadbury World invites you to put on your witch’s hat or vampire fangs and join them for a scrumptious feast of fun and frights during Ghosts and Ghouls week. Dressing up is not only great fun, but also gives you the chance of winning a prize and is sure to be a hit with the kids. Come to Victoria Square on the 9th and 10th of October and prepare to be amazed as the 175th birthday of Birmingham’s Town Hall is celebrated in breathtaking style. Marvel at the splendor of Bollywood Steps, an outdoor dance event of stunning proportions that fuses iconic elements of Bollywood. The show’s choreographer, Simmy Gupta, who grew up in Birmingham, says that “more is more, is more!”.  Bollywood Steps has a fiery magnificence that has to be seen to be believed achieved by a professional cast, hundreds of schoolchildren, dazzling outfits and a rich array of pyrotechnics, lighting and water effects. Don’t miss your chance to join the mass audience participation in the spectacular wedding scene finale. There is no reason for your kids to stop learning simply because school is closed for a week and at Thinktank they’ll have so much fun that they won’t realise they’re doing so. Exciting features are running throughout October including The Creation Animation Workshop which offers over 8s the chance to bring models to life using stop frame animation, similar to that used in Wallace & Gromit, and then take their creations home on a USB stick. Thinktank visitors can take part in the workshop which starts at 12.45pm. All are welcome to attend The Beauty of Science Show and discover the explanations behind these amazing experiments.

Between the 5th and 17th of October, the iconic Evita is playing at The Hippodrome. The musical, which had won more than 20 awards, follows the life of Eva Perón, wife of Argentine dictator Juan Perón, and was crafted by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

Take in the genius of Shakespeare at The Crescent Theatre with a production of The Winter’s Tale. The psychological drama has a plot full of twists and turns which features one of Shakespeare’s most famous stage directions: “Exit pursued by a bear.” You can catch it between the 14th and 17th of October.

From the 23rd of October you can see visionary director Wes Anderson’s interpretation of Roald Dahl’s children’s classic Fantastic Mr Fox at Millenium Point’s IMAX Cinema featuring the voice talents of George Clooney, Owen Wilson and Meryl Streep.
