Birmingham attractions prepare for a boost in visitors escaping the wet August
The current wet weather isn’t proving bad news for everybody – Birmingham’s indoor attractions are preparing to see a rise in visitors this month. With parents desperate to keep their kids entertained during the long school break, attractions aimed at families are getting ready for the upsurge.
Dave Hodgson, Head of Marketing at Marketing Birmingham, said:
“Of course we all want to see a forecast for sunny weather; however this may prove to be a good thing for the city.”
He added: “We have much to offer visitors come rain or shine that some of the more traditional UK holiday destinations often lack. We can show the rest of the UK that you can enjoy Birmingham whatever the weather.”
Neil Anderson, Marketing Manager at Cadbury World has confirmed that the attraction’s visitor numbers are up:
"Cadbury World continues to have a great 2009. Our visitor numbers are up 10% year to date and our new Advertising Avenue zone opened a few weeks ago has generated considerable interest with people looking for something fun to do and a certain drumming gorilla! The summer holiday is traditionally our busiest time and the wet weather has certainly meant that we have enjoyed a very strong start to main school holiday period."
Caroline Durbin, PR Manager at Birmingham’s Thinktank & IMAX Cinema, reports that visitors are coming in their droves:
“Both Thinktank and IMAX Cinema have experienced a considerable increase in visitor numbers compared to this time last year. I’ve no doubt that the wet weather has been a factor in persuading those who opted for a 'staycation' this year to come and see our BBC Walking with Dinosaurs exhibition, which has been a major pull.”
