London Midland supports summer attraction campaign
As the six-week summer holiday period begins Midlands-based attractions are pulling out all the stops to ensure they are high on the agenda this season.
In the first in a series of new leisure tourism campaigns, Marketing Birmingham, the city’s destination marketing agency, is launching a campaign with London Midland aimed at bringing British holidaymakers to Birmingham this summer to encourage people to spend their money closer to home.
According to last year’s Visit Britain’s annual Visitor Attractions Trend report 60 per cent of the region’s attractions saw numbers either stay level or rise, above the English average and visitor attraction owner considered optimistic.
The summer attractions campaign will include advertising in to highlight reasons to visit the city while promoting great offers to make visiting even better value for money than usual.
Offers include a London Midland’s half price Summer Rail Sale while Cadbury World, the National SEA LIFE Centre and Thinktank have provided an exclusive Kids Go Free offer for anyone travelling by train.
“Our partnership campaign is a real winner for everybody, and we're pleased to be involved. Visitors can get some fantastic savings like half-price train travel and money-off top attractions, so there's a real deal to be had for a great day out in Birmingham this summer.” says David Whitley, London Midland's Head of Marketing.
Last summer Visit Birmingham responded to the surge in visitors coming to Birmingham by updating their ticket section for www.visitbirmingham.com. The visitor website, which has seen traffic double over the past couple of years, has an online shop which lets people book tickets in advance for major attractions.
Emma Gray, Director of Marketing at Marketing Birmingham, said that in particular it had been a great couple of years for day trips to the city:
“People are changing the way they spend their money, which has proved beneficial for the city when it comes to attracting visitors. It also has a spin-off reward for all those cafes, shops and bars which provide refreshments and entertainment to those spending time here.”
