Taste of Birmingham football cook off

Coventry City star Dave Busst is back in training, this time in the kitchen ahead of a football cook off at the Taste of Birmingham food festival.

Dave will be working with Coventry-based chef Jonathan Parnell during the festival. His cooking rival is former Aston Villa player Charlie Aitken and they will each tackle a culinary creation to impress visitors.

Each team will be given a bag of locally sourced food and then cook against the clock to create the best dish. The crowd then chooses the winning team and shows the red card to the losers!

This is part of a series of football cook offs at Taste of Birmingham which will see a host of football legends swap the pitch for the kitchen. Battling out to become top of the Taste league, footballing greats from the region’s main clubs will be pitted against each other including Aston Villa, Birmingham City, Wolverhampton and West Bromwich.

Dave Busst, former Coventry City defender, says:
“I’m looking forward to honing my cooking skills with Jonathan at Taste of Birmingham. Like Coventry City, we’ve got a strong team and I’m hoping the crowd will be on our side on the day. Watch out Villa!”

Jonathan Parnell, executive chef at Filini restaurant at Radisson hotel Birmingham, says:

“As a life long Coventry fan, I’m over the moon to be working with Dave– it’s a childhood dream fulfilled! I can’t wait to cook with him at Taste of Birmingham and swapping food tips for football tactics.

“At the food festival we’ll be working together to create a dish showcasing Filini restaurant’s twist on classic Italian cooking – it will be interesting to see what ingredients we’re given on the day.”

Dave Hodgson, marketing director at Marketing Birmingham, says:
“Taste of Birmingham is welcoming a host of footballing greats to try their hand at cooking in a series of interactive features at the festival. We’re really pleased that Dave and Jonathan are able to join us as part of this – it will be interesting to see if Dave’s skills in the kitchen are as good as on the pitch!”

Dave and Jonathan’s cook off will take place on Friday 10 July at
Taste of Birmingham.
