Yasmin Alibhai-Brown has taken her poignant one-woman show on a nation-wide
tour. In Nowhere to Belong: Tales of an Extravagant, developed with the RSC and
presented with Tara Arts, the journalist and political commentator explores her
life-long love of Shakespeare and how her personal experience of playing Juliet as
teenager in the 1960’s Uganda helped to shape the emotional and political
landscape of her life.
The show, which is directed by Gavin Marshall, takes place at mac on Thursday 7
June at 7.30pm, including a post show talk chaired by Ranjit Sondhi, Chair of
sampad.
Yasmin Alibhai-Brown has written for The Guardian, Observer, the Evening
Standard and many others, as well as having a regular column for The
Independent, for which she has also received the EMMA award for Best Print
Journalism. She is also a radio and television broadcaster and the author of several
books.
Apart from writing Yasmin is a Vice president of the United Nations Association
UK and a governor of the Royal Shakespeare Company. In 2001 Yasmin returned
her MBE as a protest against events taking place in Iraq and a growing
republicanism.
“This polemical piece is one from the heart” The Times
“This show is a gem – very funny and touching – any person of spirit would find
themselves in love with Alibha-Brown.” The Independent
