Baltis in Birmingham – one of life’s unmissable adventures. That’s according to the
Rough Guide which has included Birmingham’s Balti Triangle in the top 25 of life’s
must-do experiences.

The city’s Balti Triangle is at number 15 in the list by the travel publishers, with the
Edinburgh festival as the top experience, followed by the Pembrokeshire Coast Path
and punting in Cambridge.

Dave Hodgson, marketing director at Marketing Birmingham, says:
“We’re delighted that the quality and uniqueness of Birmingham’s Balti Triangle is
recognised. Rough Guide’s list shows that you don’t need to head outside the UK to
have a great time. The Balti Triangle is a perfect example of this and is widely
thought of as the area in which to taste an authentic curry.

“Birmingham’s food and drink scene as a whole is now among the best in the UK
with boasting many award-winning restaurants, successful events and emerging
talent.”

Birmingham is long established as the home of the Balti and boasts of an area with
over 40 restaurants. The city offers a host of Eastern cuisine, with the Balti proving
to be one of the nation's favourites over recent years. However, it’s not just the Balti,
as celebrities are trying out the rest of the city’s food offering including curry. Shane
Ritchie, soon to be appearing at the Alexandra Theatre, says:

“The last time I visited Birmingham, one of the cast took me to an Indian
restaurant…I then experimented with a different dish every night. But the chicken
madras and pilau rice was sensational!”

Marketing Birmingham’s Balti Breaks offer visitors the chance to enjoy cooking,
tasting and shopping in the Balti Triangle. The Break includes a cookery demo, tour
of the area, visiting the traditional clothing and grocery shops, rounded off with a
three course meal at one of the area’s top restaurants and a quiz to test your Balti
expertise.

The Balti Break is £55 per person for the day package. Overnight accommodation is
available from £23.50 per person.
