Visitbirmingham.com to find the next junior voice of football
Visitbirmingham.com launched a campaign in February for young football fans to put their commentating skills to the test in a competition to find Britain’s next top football commentator.
The campaign, named visitbirmingham.com’s Junior Voice of Football, was launched with the help of Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler at the home of Aston Villa Football Club, Villa Park.
As an official partner to Aston Villa FC, visitbirmingham.com set up the contest for children under the age of 16 to show off their commentary skills by entering the competition via the AVFC website, sending in their own commentary clip to a famous Villa goal.
After receiving entries from all over the UK and achieving media coverage on BBC SportsRound and Match of the Day magazine, the top five finalists were chosen by a panel of judges, including Marketing Birmingham PR Manager Kate Eccles. The shortlisted contestants attended a reserve game at Villa Park, where they were able to show off their skills by commentating for five minutes.
The shortlist is currently uploaded online, where fans, friends and families can vote for their favourite. The young commentator with the most votes will win the star prize, including a media tour, hospitality passes at Villa Park and an action packed family weekend in Birmingham.
