It’s been a bumper year for Marketing Birmingham’s Ticket Shop, with turnover reaching a
record-breaking £1million, compared to £848,000 in the previous twelve months.
The outlet, located in the ground floor of The Rotunda, sells tickets for the city’s theatres,
concerts, events and attractions, as well as Birmingham branded merchandise, maps and
souvenirs, and acts as a general information point to help visitors to make the most of their stay in the city.
Recent highlights have included ticket sales for the forthcoming Take That concert in Birmingham which generated more than 45 times the average daily number of calls, and hit show Simply Ballroom starring Lionel Blair, currently showing at Birmingham Hippodrome until Saturday 24 March.
Jenny Young, Visitor Services Manager at Marketing Birmingham, said: “This significant increase in turnover shows that visitors to Birmingham are making the most of the facilities in the city and we are delighted that the Ticket Shop is helping to boost attendance at shows and events.
“People can buy tickets over the counter or through our dedicated call centre and we also receive a lot of support from local people who now use the Ticket Shop as their regular outlet for venues such as Birmingham Hippodrome and the NEC.”
Cllr Ray Hassall, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture, said: “The record ticket sales at the Ticket Shop reflect the excellent variety of theatres, concert and event venues in Birmingham and the consistently high quality and wide choice of shows and events taking place throughout the year.”
The Ticket Shop is located at The Rotunda, giving easy access for visitors travelling through
Birmingham New Street Station and shoppers in the Bullring. Marketing Birmingham also
operates the Welcome Centre at the junction of New Street and Corporation Street.
