visitbirmingham.com’s ‘Blue Queudrue’ a big success

The curry commissioned by visitbirmingham.com, and created by Birmingham City’s Franck Queudrue, proved so popular at its official sampling that the ‘secret’ recipe is to be made available to all on the visitbirmingham.com website from today.

The dish, launched to celebrate the start of National Curry Week (22-28 November 2009), saw visitbirmingham.com and Birmingham City Football Club team up to develop a very special Blues curry to give away to fans for their game against Fulham on Saturday November 21.

‘The Blue Queudrue’, as it was named via a competition on the visitbirmingham.com website, was served at the Royal George pub, as well as in the corporate hospitality lounges at St. Andrew’s ahead of the Premier League fixture against Fulham.

So popular was the dish that the fans in the packed Royal George pub wolfed down every portion in just two hours, creating calls for the recipe to be released.

To create the dish, visitbirmingham.com, an official partner to Birmingham City FC, brought in Blues players James McFadden and Franck Queudrue, as well as chefs from the award winning Lasan restaurant, to help produce a curry in a cook-off.  Franck’s curry was chosen by a panel of top judges, including Blues vice president Mike Wiseman.

Dave Hodgson of Marketing Birmingham said: “Good food is at the heart of Birmingham and the city is now home to more Michelin stars than any other English city outside London. Curry has always been an important part of the Birmingham restaurant scene, and over the past few years has developed into high quality cuisine, especially in restaurants such as Lasan.

“The curry certainly went down well and so it only seems fair to release the recipe for the dish so that fans can tuck into their very own ‘Blue Queudrue’ at home.”
