Taste the World in One City

- Birmingham Bites at the BBC Good Food Show, 22nd – 26th November 2006 -

Visitors to the BBC Good Food Show at the NEC will have the opportunity to taste the
world in one city at the Birmingham Bites stand, N110, and also at the Show’s Tasting
Theatre. The Birmingham Bites stand will be celebrating the city’s diverse food offering
from Michelin starred restaurants, world cuisine and cookery courses.

The cream of the city’s restaurants will be on hand at the stand to share their know-how
and tempt visitors with gastronomic treats. Visitors will be given an insight into their
expertise with demonstrations every half an hour as well as the chance to sample some of
the city’s best cuisine for themselves.

The stand will also allow people to recreate some of the city’s best recipes for themselves
with the Taste of Birmingham Volume III book. The latest in the series of award-winning
recipe books, this is a collection of dishes created by some of the most renowned
restaurants from across the city. Celebrity chef Anthony Worrall Thompson will be on the
Birmingham Bites stand on the first day of the Show to celebrate the city’s culinary
offering and sign copies of the book, which is available at the discounted price of £10.

Brindleyplace will be on the Birmingham Bites stand to showcase its host of restaurants
spanning all corners of the globe, from European cuisine at Italian Cielo and Raymond
Blanc’s Brasserie Blanc to a taste of the Orient with Thai Edge and Shogun Teppan-Yaki.

Opus restaurant will be launching its take home patisserie range which includes Belgian
chocolate tarts and spiced carrot cake. Head chef, David Colcombe, will be serving up
samples of its modern British food so visitors can taste why it has already scooped awards
including ‘Best Newcomer’ at the Taste of Birmingham event.

Find out why the award-winning Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative
Studies is widely recognised as the UK’s leading food college and a leading provider of
contemporary academic programmes in the fields of Hospitality and Food and Consumer
Management.

Meet the two new arrivals at The Mailbox - The Oriental Bar and Restaurant and Kinnaree
Thai Restaurant. The Oriental brings together dishes from Malaysia, Thailand and China.
Kinnaree serves authentic Thai cuisine including Pad Thai and Gaeng Keow Waan
alongside a striking 12 foot golden dragonboat.

Birmingham’s newest hotel, the 39-storey Radisson SAS Hotel will be dishing out treats
from its own Filini restaurant which offers flavours inspired from Sardinian and Italian
cuisine.

Other hotels at the Birmingham Bites stand are the Windmill Village Hotel, which houses
the Fairways restaurant and Cellar bar, and the Ardencote Manor Hotel. The menu at
Ardencote’s Lodge is influenced by cuisines from diverse countries such as Morocco and
Spain.

Dave Hodgson, marketing director at Marketing Birmingham, said: “Home to a tantalising
feast of award winning culinary delights, Birmingham is the natural host for the BBC Good
Food Show. We hope visitors will enjoy discovering the city’s food and drink offering on
our stand and taste for themselves why Birmingham is such a foodie’s delight. A day at
the Show will tickle the tastebuds with a taste of the world all in one city.”

Birmingham Bites is also sponsoring the BBC Good Food Show’s Tasting Theatre where
Birmingham’s top restaurants share the secrets of their culinary success. Visitors can take
a break from the show and enjoy a sample size three course meal from a host of local
restaurants. Birmingham’s Michelin starred restaurants Jessica’s and Simpson will be
giving demonstrations alongside Indian restaurant Lasan, Brindleyplace’s Bank, Café
Paxton, Opus and the Birmingham College of Food. At each of the sessions, the chef will
give a unique insight into the inspiration behind the dish so you have all the knowledge,
as well as the food, at your fingertips!
