Birmingham has been quite a surprise. I came for the Interiors Fair but I had the opportunity to taste more. From the Ikon Gallery, very special contemporary art in an interesting building with a good bookshop and a friendly Spanish restaurant, to The Electric Cinema, all the comfort of being in a home-cinema with an atmosphera that recalls the old Italian Cinema Paradiso but with high standard movie quality. Unfortunately the trend of cinemas is to have anonymous interiors in commercial areas totally lacking of personality. The Electric Cinema is really a gem. I visited the Public Gallery at West Bromwich, amazing building but in stand-by for what concerns exhibitions. From the 19th floor of my Rotunda design flat I could have a breathtaking view of the town at night and plan my movements ahead. I appreciated the Custard Factory project but also wondering around in the markets, along the canals and satisfied my curiosity about the past of the town visiting the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. And fish & chips at The Old Joint Stock was a finding!

Birmingham is a unique and attractive city with much to offer.  It is nothing like the hoary old stereotype I held of it as a scrum of factories and smokestacks. The contact people in Birmingham were very likeable – and real professionals. The itinerary was a lot of fun and a great help. I had no problems finding my way. The accommodations and their locations were super.

Thank you for organising my press trip to Birmingham. I had an amazing time. My city tour guide was great and I'm sure that most of our readers will find all of that info extremely interesting.

The changes are phenomenal, so much money put into the city & infrastructure ! Huge difference & fantastic for a city break. The Highlights ! Fantastic dinner at Lasan ( Indian Restaurant ) , very chic dining probably the best I have ever eaten ! The Jewellery Quarter Museum - definitely worth a visit ! the history of the building & workers is fascinating ! The cruise on the longboat around Birmingham with the fine food was truly an eye opening experience , A three hour cruise with a brilliant guide showing all the highlights that Birmingham has to offer & a lot of the history of the canals Finally my trip to Cadbury World on the Sunday was great! Fantastic for families or re-living your youth with amazing visual presentations from the early days to the current days All in all I would highly recommend Birmingham as a Destination - shopping, sights, eatery's ! All great !
