SHIP AHOY! BULLRING BUILDS BRITANNIA; BIRMINGHAM’S FIRST CRUISE SHIP
Visitors to Birmingham over the summer won’t believe their eyes – as a Cruise Ship is launched right in the centre of the landlocked city. The Ship, named Britannia in recognition of Birmingham’s pride at being Britain’s Second City, is being built by Bullring Birmingham as a venue for a host of nautical but nice events over the holiday period.
Following on from the phenomenal success of the award winning Beach last summer, which saw an 8% increase in footfall year on year for the 13 weeks of beach events, the team at Bullring is creating a unique fully constructed Britannia cruise ship in St Martin’s Square that can hold up to 200 people.
Production began in studio on 21st April with construction taking a further two weeks to complete once on site. Britannia Cruise Ship is unlike anything ever seen before in the UK, and is expected to prove a huge attraction that will draw people to choose Birmingham as their summer destination.
Themed around a love of all things British, the official launch will be celebrated on 4th June when Britannia will be open to the public offering free-of-charge events and activities for everyone to enjoy throughout the summer.
Tim Walley, general manager of Bullring, said; “Britannia is building on the incredible success of the Beach last year, and will provide the people of Birmingham with free access to a premium attraction over the summer months.
“By building Britannia, we are bringing a unique and exciting event to the city and ensuring that Bullring is at the centre of everyone’s summer. We want people to really take the ship to heart as the symbol of the great holiday atmosphere that Birmingham has to offer.”
