Like Jewellery? Love Brilliantly Birmingham 2006
For five weeks this winter, jewellery lovers in Birmingham will have the chance to pick up unique, contemporary pieces from the best regional, national and international designer-makers at venues across the city.
From 16 November – 23 December, the seventh annual Brilliantly Birmingham international festival of contemporary jewellery will feature free exhibitions, workshops and special events including:
• An exhibition by Centrepiece, a collective of some of Birmingham’s leading designer makers at Birmingham Symphony Hall;
• New work from renowned jewellers Sara Preisler and Emma Dicks at Sara’s gallery in The Custard Factory;
• Open Studios, with the chance to meet and buy from jewellers who design and make their work in the Jewellery Quarter;
• Flux, an exhibition of the best new and emerging contemporary designer makers at Birmingham School of Jewellery;
• Bombay to Birmingham, a celebration of contemporary Asian-influenced jewellery alongside traditional pieces from Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery’s collection;
• Two exhibitions at Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, including Treasures of Today, featuring silver from Goldsmiths’ Hall, London;
Brilliantly Birmingham will offer members of the public the unique opportunity to buy innovative pieces directly from those who designed and made them. All venues will offer
visitors unique, contemporary jewellery that can’t be bought on the high street, and with Christmas around the corner, it’s the perfect time to pick out an extra special present for loved ones, or a treat for yourself.
Brilliantly Birmingham is growing every year, and this year’s programme of events is as diverse as ever. Birmingham is a world centre for contemporary jewellery design and creation, making it the perfect venue to view, buy and commission innovative pieces from some of the world’s leading designers.
Birmingham City Council has brought together these important partnerships in support of Brilliantly Birmingham. Councillor Ray Hassall, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture said: “In its seventh year, Brilliantly Birmingham is seen as an important event to recognise the creativity of designer makers within Birmingham and the West Midlands. It attracts international visitors and exhibitors which helps promotes Birmingham as a great international city.”
