71 Hotel

One of Coventry’s newest hotels is to change its name to reflect its standing within the UK’s hospitality industry.

The Arena Hotel opened its 46 pitch-view rooms, 21 mini-suites and four junior suites at the Ricoh Arena in December 2005.

The boutique hotel is to be renamed ‘71 Rooms & Silk Suites’ as the hotel aims to build on its reputation as a luxurious destination.

Nigel Mann, the hotel’s manager, said the success of the venue had emphasised the importance of tourism and business travellers to Coventry.

“When we initially suggested creating a boutique hotel within a multi-purpose venue there were many sceptics within the industry but we have proved them all wrong,” he said.

“The standard of the accommodation has attracted domestic and international customers who in the past wouldn’t have visited Coventry and the knock-on effect is that it has brought more business to the city and more money into the local economy.

“We have high occupancy rates in mid-week and we are often completely full with guests staying overnight because they are attending a conference or exhibition at the Ricoh or they are visiting the Midlands for a leisure break.

“After being in business for 18 months we felt the name Arena Hotel didn’t reflect the luxurious quality of our accommodation.

“Guests who are visiting here for the first time are always taken aback by the pitch-view rooms which overlook Coventry City’s pitch and the facilities contained in the mini-suites and suites which we believe are the best in the city bar none.

“We won’t be changing the style of the hotel just the name which was chosen to highlight we have 71 Rooms and Silk Suites available and we have added the word silk to reflect the historical importance of the industry to the city.

“The name change will take effect from the end of May as we continue to put tourism at the forefront of Coventry’s agenda.”

Research from the hotel’s customer satisfaction surveys has revealed that customers from countries ranging from Ireland to Iceland have stayed overnight.

“Our data also shows that the vast majority of bookings are from guests who are not Coventry based and that we are attracting people who would historically have automatically headed to Birmingham,” Nigel added.

“We are confident 71 Rooms & Silk Suites will continue to impress new and old guests from throughout the UK and abroad.”
