Launch of Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market
The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Cllr Michael Wilkes and the German Ambassador to the UK, Herr Georg Boomgaarden officially launched the market which runs along New Street and Victoria Square.
It was the first time the German Ambassador has visited the market, and he commented, “I am delighted to be in Birmingham to officially open the Frankfurt Christmas Market, which is the most visible symbol of the long-standing partnership between two vibrant cities; Birmingham and Frankfurt am Main.”
Last year the market attracted a record 2.8 million visitors during its six-week stay and this year it is even bigger, with stalls stretching all the way down New Street to the Welcome Centre.
Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market is open until Wednesday 23 December from
10am – 9pm.
