Ben Ternent Achieves His Award of Excellence 2009, Kitchen, Academy of Culinary Arts
We are delighted to announce that Ben Ternent, Chef de Partie at Opus Restaurant, has achieved his ‘Award of Excellence, Kitchen’ in the Academy of Culinary Arts Annual Awards of Excellence 2009.
Ben was one of only 5 chefs to achieve his award this year, out of more than 100 from around Britain who initially entered the competition. The young chefs at the final were judged by a panel of top chefs including Honorary President of the AAE 2009, Heston Blumenthal OBE.
David Colcombe, Chef Director of Opus said, ‘I am delighted to see Ben’s skill has been rewarded in this way. Ben first joined my kitchen 3 years ago straight from the College of Food at UCB. He is truly a home grown talent – Birmingham born and bred, Birmingham educated, and Birmingham trained.
The Academy of Culinary Arts is Britain’s leading professional culinary association and the AAE’s exacting standards are exceptionally hard to achieve. We believe that young people coming into the trade must be encouraged to master the classical techniques in order to deliver quality.
Ben is one of three in our talented and very young team to achieve his Award of Excellence. As a small, independent restaurant, we have now had awards in each area of excellence – Pastry, Kitchen, Service – and we are only in our fourth year of being open’.
