Film Now Showing in 4D Cinema at Drayton Manor Theme Park Wins Second Award
The Curse of Skull Rock, the film showing in the new 4D cinema at Drayton Manor Theme Park, has won the Animation for Young Audiences Award at the Red Stick International Film Festival in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The short film, created by Red Star 3D, is an animated adventure that pits cabin girl Jill Hopkins against the tyrannical Captain Scabb in pursuit of the legendary lost treasure of Skull Rock. In 2008, it won the award for Best Children’s Animated Film at the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film.
Audiences in Drayton Manor’s 152-seat 4D cinema can watch the film in 3D while seated in specially designed chairs, which react to scenes in the film by moving up and down, releasing sprays of water, bursts of air, bubbles and various smells.
Drayton Manor launched the 4D cinema when the park opened in March of this year and it has been hugely popular ever since. The theme park already boasts some of the biggest, wettest and scariest rides around such as G-Force, Maelstrom and Apocalypse, and is home to Europe’s first and only Thomas Land™.
Ben Smith, Creative Director at Red Star 3D, commented on the award win: “We are delighted that The Curse of Skull Rock has been recognised with this latest award.
“Drayton Manor Theme Park is a very popular tourist attraction and we are pleased that the film is being shown here and enjoyed by so many people.”
