Official Opening of the GMAC at Alexander Stadium

Birmingham City Council’s brand new Gymnastics and Martial Arts Centre (GMAC), an Olympic standard facility which is included in the LOCOG’s pre-training camp guide, and which will also be a key facility for local gymnastic and martial arts clubs and community groups, will be officially opened on Wednesday 24 September.

The official opening will include a performance by Louis Smith and displays from local gymnastics and aikido clubs. Local school children will also take part in jujitsu and aikido lessons.

Interview and Photo Opportunities
There will be interview and photo opportunities with Mike Whitby, Leader of Birmingham City Council, Councillor Ray Hassall, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture, Louis Smith, Olympic bronze medallist on the pommel horse and Bruno Grandi, President of the FIG (the international governing body for gymnastics).
