Leading convention centre celebrates success and appoints new sales head
The UK’s premier conference venue, The International Convention Centre, Birmingham, is celebrating the appointment of a new Head of Conference Sales, alongside unprecedented financial success.
Richard Smith, formerly an Account Director at the Birmingham venue, was appointed to the post in April, and has focussed on developing the overall customer experience for both organiser and delegates. The existing sales team will also be expanded in September, with the appointment of a new Account Director.
The ICC has also recorded more than £5.5 million of business since the start of the financial year, putting it well ahead of its target, despite the current economic climate.
Richard said: “This position has given me the opportunity to take some really positive steps forward in terms of developing how we operate as a business, particularly by developing long-term relationships and contracts with our existing base of clients. My main goals are now to focus on business development, communication, and customer experience as well as developing the existing sales team.”
“I am confident that while we will be facing challenging market conditions over the next few years, we will increase our international association business, secure further deals with the core association market and build closer relationships with government clients. For The ICC, the future is looking very strong.”
Geoff Fenlon, General Manager, The ICC said: “Richard has always been a valuable member of our team and over his career has developed not only a wealth of experience and knowledge within the sales sector, but also with The ICC itself.”
The ICC is now preparing to host the Conservative Party Conference, which starts on Sunday 28 September and is expected to bring some 10,000 delegates to Birmingham.
