Flight Path marks homecoming for local writer David Watson

Out of Joint, the UK's leading new writing theatre company, returns to Birmingham Repertory Theatre with its new show, Flight Path by David Watson from 9 to 13 October. Flight Path will mark something of a homecoming for the twenty-two year old playwright. Having grown up in Solihull, David Watson is a graduate of The REP's Transmissions Young Writers scheme.

Flight Path is a funny and unflinching family drama. Offering teenage rebellion with a twist, it focuses on 18-year-old Jonathan. His father's just left the family home, his mother has a busy career, and Jonathan finds himself torn between alternative worlds - studying and looking after his brother who has Down's syndrome; and helping his mate out with a spot of burglary.

David Watson was nurtured through Birmingham Repertory Theatre's Transmissions scheme for young writers throughout his teens and he is now currently under commission to write another play for The REP. His first play, Just A Bloke, was given a professional reading at The REP during the 2002 Transmissions Festival and was subsequently picked up by the Royal Court, Britain's most renowned venue for new writing, when he was just 17.
