Forum looks to a sustainable future for Birmingham
BRUMMIES are being invited to have their say on protecting precious resources to ensure a sustainable future for the city.
A special meeting of the Birmingham Sustainability Forum on Thursday 5 October is focusing on climate change and sustainability. Birmingham citizens are being invited to attend to give their thoughts on what the city’s main priorities should be for ensuring a more sustainable future. Other questions being posed are what would make the forum more effective in helping Birmingham to achieve this aim, and also what the barriers are.
The meeting, titled “Sustainability and Climate Change, the Way Forward”, takes place in the Council House, starting at 6.00pm.
Deputy Leader of the Council Paul Tilsley will be opening the meeting. Councillor Tilsley says, “We may not be able to stop the effects of climate change, but together we can certainly adapt our behaviour and reduce our impacts. I would urge as many people as possible to come along and give us their views.”
There will also be a presentation from Councillor Steve Bedser, Chair of the Sustainability and Climate Change Scrutiny Committee. The committee is currently carrying out a review of sustainability and climate change with a view towards developing a strategy for Birmingham and is also seeking the views of Birmingham citizens. Councillor Bedser will use the opportunity to talk about the work of the committee and how people can contribute. Cllr Bedser added, “Our review is important in helping the council to plan ahead by thinking about what we need to do now to protect our future.”
