Third international Animation Festival to be launched at Millennium Point
As a major part of the ‘Creative Week’ being staged by UCE Birmingham’s Technology Innovation Centre (TIC), the event takes place on Thursday 26th October 2006. Starting at 7.00pm there will be a free public screening and talk about their work by West Midlands-based animation company, the Brothers McLeod.
The company’s productions have featured on BBC, E4, Channel 4, Atomfilms.com and Channel Frederator, which regularly broadcasts cartoon programmes direct to subscribers worldwide. Brothers McLeod are now represented by Aardman Animations and will follow their early evening presentation by hosting a party in the iBar from 9pm.
‘Flip’s’ entries come from as far afield as Asia and the USA and offer an extraordinary collection of subjects and treatments. Based at the Light House Media Centre in Wolverhampton over the following 3 days, the programme is not only a celebration of creativity in animated imagination and innovation, but also an educational experience.
Light House and TIC are partners in the delivery of specialist technical skills courses in the fields of both screen-based and interactive digital media.
The Friday-to-Sunday, Wolverhampton-based range of ‘Flip’ activities encompasses screenings, panels, talks and workshops. This year’s highlights include a special a retrospective from internationally acclaimed studio, Slinky Pictures.
TIC’s launch co-ordinator, Scarlet Scardanelli, says: “We are delighted to offer a launch pad for ‘Flip’ with our educational partners Light House as part of TIC’s Creative Week. Following the previous two nights of our own short film competition ‘Cinem@tic’ in the IMAX, we welcome hosting this high-profile, specialist, animated film event, which adds international flavour to the overall TIC programme.”
The ‘Flip’ launch is the Thursday night feature of TIC’s special, week-long celebration of media-based creativity at Millennium Point, simply entitled ‘TIC Creative Week’.
