Skills Appointment for NEC Group Chief Executive

One of the West Midland’s most influential business figures has been appointed Chair of the Birmingham and Solihull Employment and Skills Board, the advisory body to the Learning and Skills Council.

Paul Thandi, Chief Executive of The NEC Group, accepted the role following the retirement of David Hersey, former Regional Director of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Paul said: “I am exceptionally pleased and extremely honoured to be able to take up this role. I believe strongly in the importance of skills development and the overwhelmingly positive contribution that it can make to our region, particularly in the face of our current economy.

“David has done some great work as chair over the last twelve months, and I look forward to the opportunities and challenges that this position will offer in the future.”

The Learning and Skills Council champions skills development, tests and exposes weaknesses in services delivery, and recommends improvements to both the LSC and Job Centre Plus.

Paul is currently President of Solihull Chamber of Commerce, and was recently voted the most influential business figure in the West Midlands, topping the Birmingham Post’s annual Power 50 poll for 2009.
