Prize money announced for the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon
Organisers of the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon have announced the prize money which is up for grabs at the event, which will be staged on Sunday 26 October.
The first male and first female runners to cross the finish line on Broad Street near Centenary Square will each receive £1,000. Second place finishers for both men and women will receive £600 with third place runners each receiving £300. Everyone who finishes the race will receive a t-shirt and a medal.
It is hoped that the prize money for the EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon, which is also known as the ‘Race Against Climate Change’ will encourage further entries from some of the region’s and even the country’s best runners.
So far more than 5,000 runners have signed up for the first ever EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon and organisers Birmingham City Council are expecting hundreds more to sign up in the next few weeks before the entry system closes on Friday 26 September.
As well as signing up for the event, many runners have been pledging their support for the EDF Energy 2012 Carbon Challenge and committing to reduce their personal carbon footprints by a tonne.
The EDF Energy Birmingham Half Marathon is organised by Birmingham City Council, sponsored by EDF Energy and supported by 100.7 Heart FM, the Birmingham Mail, Aston Villa FC, Birmingham City FC and the Heart of Birmingham Teaching Primary Care Trust.
