RNLI Fun Day
Drayton Manor Theme Park, near Tamworth, Staffordshire, is hosting a fun day this Sunday 5th July for the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution).
Amongst the attractions will be an inshore lifeboat on display to the public, and a visit from the RNLI’s friendly mascot Stormy Stan. Fundraisers will be at the theme park all day, encouraging people to support the charity, which works tirelessly to provide a 24-hour lifesaving service across the UK’s coasts and rivers.
There’s also a special treat for members of Storm Force, the RNLI’s child membership scheme. On presentation of a valid membership card, they will be able to enter the park for free and all other family members with them will only pay £10 each.
The award-winning theme park has supported the RNLI since the opening of water ride Storm Force 10 in 1999. The ride was the UK’s first water chute coaster with a reverse drop and is themed to recreate a lifeboat rescue with speeds of up to 35knots on its three spectacular drops.
In the past ten years, money raised by the theme park has bought an Atlantic 75 lifeboat worth £72,000, which is currently on the River Thames in London, and more recently the purchase of a Y-Boat. Continued support will soon see another boat bought to be used at Hoylake, Merseyside.
Visitors to Drayton Manor this weekend can also experience some of the biggest, wettest and scariest rides around including Apocalypse, G-Force, Maelstrom and Shockwave, as well a 4D cinema, which opened in March.
Younger guests will enjoy Europe’s only Thomas Land™, which features 12 rides based on popular Thomas & Friends™ characters as well as indoor and outdoor play areas, a restaurant and a shop. Families can also relax and unwind in the park’s 15-acre zoo, which is home to a huge number of animal species from around the world.
Colin Bryan, Managing Director of the theme park, comments: “The RNLI does such a fantastic job to protect people on the UK’s coasts and seas, that we are delighted to provide support in whichever way we can. I hope that this year’s fun day will see many Storm Force members enjoying a day out at Drayton Manor and the public giving generously to the charity.”
Audrey Farr, Senior Fundraising and Appeals Manager, RNLI, comments: “We are a charity that receives no Government funding, so are always grateful for donations of any size. Drayton Manor’s ongoing support has made a huge difference to our capabilities and allows us to continue to offer 24-hour assistance to the public.”
