Ozzy Osbourne Becomes the First Star on the Birmingham Walk of Stars
Global superstar Ozzy Osbourne returned home to Birmingham today to became the first star inducted onto Birmingham’s new ‘Walk of Stars’ on Broad Street.
The Birmingham Walk of Stars will honour those people who have made a significant contribution in the categories of music, television, film, radio, theatre, sport and literacy. Ozzy unveiled his brass star today, and it will be laid in Broad Street tomorrow. Additional stars will be announced in the near future and will be placed along Broad Street to create a unique Walk of Stars trail. The public can now nominate and vote for future stars via the website: www.walkofstars.co.uk.
Ozzy Osbourne, who was inducted onto the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2002 commented “I have a star in Hollywood on their Walk of Fame but having a Star in my home town means so much more to me. A personal thanks goes out to Lord Mayor Randal Brew.”
The Right Worshipful Lord Mayor of Birmingham elect Cllr Randal Brew said: “It is a great honour to be able to offer Ozzy the very first Star on the Birmingham Walk of Stars."
Gary Taylor, Chair of the Broad Street Business Improvement District, organisers of the Walk of Stars said: “Ozzy is widely recognised as the most high profile Birmingham personality in the world today and we’re proud to be able to offer him the honour of being the first star on the ‘Walk of Stars’ in Broad Street. It’s a great testament to what this area offers, we have some incredibly talented people from Birmingham together with world famous acts that regularly perform in this area and we wanted to start honouring them in a way that shows how proud we are to have them here.”
Ozzy has sold over 50 million CDs worldwide, as a solo artist. His new album Black Rain was released on May 21st, and this summer he plays his biggest European tour to date. He performs tonight at Birmingham’s NIA, one of only two UK dates on a 19 date European tour.

About The Birmingham Walk of Stars
The Birmingham Walk of Stars, Broad Street will honour those people who have made a significant contribution in the categories of music, television, film, radio, theatre, sport and literacy. Similar to Hollywood, the criteria for induction is that the ‘star’ chosen by the organisers must be available to attend the induction ceremony. Posthumous awards will also be considered.
