Following their acclaimed visit in 2005, ALVIN AILEY AMERICAN DANCE THEATER return to Birmingham Hippodrome for two performances only on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 September 2007 with a programme of sparkling new productions alongside stunning Ailey classics.
The programme includes Stravinsky’s FIREBIRD, a dance piece new to the Ailey company offering audiences a fairtytale for a modern all-male interpretation; THE GOLDEN SECTION, by the Tony Award winning choreographer Twyla Tharp and featuring music by David Byrne, shatters the limits of human physicality with breathtaking leaps, finely-honed partnering and explosive joy; and completing the programme is another chance to see REVELATIONS, the most famous and enduring classic. REVELATIONS is a tribute to the African-American cultural heritage using rousing spirituals, gospel songs and holy blues.
