Urban Village re-launches in style

Urban Village, one of Birmingham’s most popular vintage stores is celebrating a move into bigger, better premises with a fantastic day of live music, incredible fashion and even a scooter rally. The event will be taking place on Saturday 26 June, with activities taking place in and around Zellig, the newest part of the Custard Factory, between 10am – 5.30pm.

Well-known by any Birmingham fashionista, Urban Village has developed something of a cult following over the past twelve years and boasts a large number of celebrity clients including Paul Weller, Blondie, Aqualung and the Hives. The shop supplies fashion, music, artwork and home furnishings from the 1920’s to the eighties, and stocks everything from Vivienne Westwood to vintage Adidas.

The event will feature top soul and mod DJ’s throughout the day, with special guest band DC.Fontana playing a set at 2.30pm, and excitingly, showing an exclusive premiere of their latest video. The day will also feature a vintage scooter rally, with prizes on offer for the best entries.

Commenting on the current popularity of vintage fashion, shop owner Frankie Johns said: “Nowadays, unless you buy designer, clothing just doesn’t last - we have pieces from the 1920’s that have lasted for ninety years! Vintage also offers a unique alternative to the generic fashion trends sold by high street stores and is very eco-friendly as it’s all about reusing things.

“We’ve had to move to bigger premises as demand for vintage is huge at the moment, and there’s a real need for genuine, quality vintage clothing. We’ve gained some very loyal customers over the years and would love everyone to come and help us celebrate the move, and see the new shop.”

Anyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the fun, and with a host of eateries and bars nearby it’s the perfect way to spend a summers day.
