Airport uses google to help communicate with neighbours
Residents and businesses located close to, or looking to relocate near Birmingham Airport can now use Google Earth to find out about its flight paths, noise insulation scheme, air quality monitoring and other environmental programmes the Airport offers.
Birmingham Airport is the first UK Airport to launch the new tool via its website www.birminghamairport.co.uk, which further demonstrates the Airport’s desire to continue offering an open and transparent community relations and environmental policy.
Ben Hanley, the Airport’s Environment Manager, said, “We’re always seeking new ways to communicate our initiatives and information, and this new Google Earth tool allows key environmental information to be viewed in ways that were not previously possible, giving our neighbours a better insight into our programmes.
“We expect the resource will also be beneficial to those looking to relocate close to Birmingham Airport who want to find out where flight paths are and if they are eligible for our environmental schemes.”
In order to view the Airport’s Google Earth information, users must first have Google Earth installed on their computer. This can be installed from the Airport’s website at http://www.birminghamairport.co.uk/meta/about-us/environment.aspx.
Once the software is installed, users can download a KMZ file from the same area of the website and view the various layers of airport information, which links back to the associated sections of the Airport’s website, where more information can be found about each topic.
Ben continued, “Over the years, we have developed and maintained a range of information resources that give a detailed overview of our environmental management programmes for our neighbours. We believe that providing our data on Google Earth demonstrates our commitment to being open and transparent and we would love for people to give us their feedback so we can provide an even better service going forward.”
