Drayton Manor Granted Approval for Theme Park Hotel

Drayton Manor Theme Park, near Tamworth, Staffordshire, has come a step closer to having a 150-bedroom hotel on the site as the Government Office for the West Midlands approves plans.

Lichfield District Council gave its approval for the plans earlier in the year, and the decision by the Government Office means the theme park has overcome a huge hurdle in what has been a lengthy planning process.

The hotel will be located in the theme park’s surrounding parkland and has been designed to blend in with the woodland setting. Once built, it will provide overnight accommodation for visitors to the theme park, including Thomas the Tank Engine-themed family rooms to compliment the theme park’s hugely popular Thomas Land. Other facilities will include two restaurants, a coffee shop and a crèche.

Up to 55 full-time and 30 part-time job opportunities will be created when the hotel opens and extensive conferencing and banqueting facilities, complimenting those already at the theme park, will see the hotel in use all year round, generating new business for local suppliers and other attractions in the area.

The approved plans were drawn up by local Warwick-based architects, John Pass and Associates, CA design, and planning consultants, Pegasus.

Colin Bryan, Managing Director, Drayton Manor Theme Park, said: “We are delighted to finally have the go-ahead for the hotel. The Drayton Manor Hotel will set a new standard in theme park accommodation and will enable visitors to make the most out of their time at the park.

“I expect lots of families will be excited about staying in the hotel and will take advantage of our location to visit other attractions in the area. By including banqueting and conferencing facilities in the building, together with our current large banqueting suites, I hope it will also encourage business visitors to the area.

“This October we will be celebrating our Diamond Jubilee, commemorating 60 years of providing family entertainment. Investing in the new hotel is our gift to the park to mark the occasion.”
