Fresh Air – a student run event

Masters Students in Event & Exhibition Management run their own live Fresh Air event for charity.

Masters Students studying Event & Exhibition Management at Birmingham City University have been tasked with the job of promoting open areas and green spaces around Birmingham. They are to run a live event as part of their course to encourage the people of Birmingham to go out, get fresh air and visit outdoor spaces more often, whilst utilising the Event Management skills the students have been developing over the past 9 months.

There are over 8000 acres of parks and open spaces in Birmingham and this event aims to give people a reason to use them more often now that summer is here. The students’ Fresh Air Event and Kite Making Workshop hopes to encourage people of all ages to be more active and utilise these spaces to their full potential. Tariq Elkashef, a Masters Student said:
“Kite flying is a perfect way for people of all ages to enjoy themselves in the fresh air and lead a happier, healthier lifestyle. We are running this kite making workshop to show how cheap and easy having fun outside can be. Come and join in and you can design it, build it, fly it, love it!”

This fun event has a more serious note too as all proceeds raised are in support of the British Heart Foundation. The University students and their supporters will be helping to save lives this June by supporting the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) Help a Heart campaign. Robert of the World’s Smallest Kite Company based in Ireland said

“we jumped at the opportunity to support Fresh Air in helping the British Heart Foundation raise funds, and bring pleasure to all those who can appreciate the outdoor spaces in Birmingham. As kite manufacturers, we understand the health virtues of a dynamic lifestyle for all ages, from 5-105. “
