Cultural Photography Exhibition

The World in One Region’ photography exhibition is launching at the BBC Mailbox on Friday, June 8th, 2007.

The exhibition was an opportunity for amateur, professional or student photographers who live in the West Midlands to help capture a series of ‘fly on the wall’ photographs that will build up a detailed and honest picture of the day to day lives of ethnically diverse communities across the West Midlands.

The competition was open to anyone and everyone, and the broad criteria of ‘West Midlands Ethnically Diverse Communities’ is open to entrants own interpretations and winning entries, chosen by Susan Virdee – BBC, Pogus Caesar – Omm Gallery and Adil Ray – BBC Asian Network will be displayed in the reception of the BBC Mailbox for everyone to see.

The pictures can also be viewed on the website, www.theworldinoneregion.co.uk  where details of the wider cultural research project that this part of can be found.

Anita Dinham, Diversity and Access Manager at Audiences Central, who arranged the competition, commented ‘We were delighted to receive so many entries from an extremely broad cross section of diverse communities. This illustrates how the West Midlands is made up of such and vibrant cultures’.
