A taste of heaven
Birmingham has been named as one of the top 10 heavenly food hot spots in the UK. National food magazine Olive has honoured the city’s culinary credentials saying ‘Birmingham’s dining scene has risen life a perfect soufflé’. Itihaas, Simpsons, Opus and Hotel du Vin are among some of the restaurants picked out as examples of Birmingham’s gourmet expertise.
Dave Hodgson, marketing director at Marketing Birmingham, says:
“We’re delighted that Birmingham’s outstanding food and drink offering has been recognised. The city’s place as one of the top 10 food hot spots in the UK is proof that its culinary scene has come on in leaps and bounds in recent years.
“Birmingham boasts award-winning restaurants, fantastic foodhalls and cookery schools. Its food and drink offering deserves to be celebrated, and this is done by events such as BBC Good Food Summer Festival this month and Taste of Birmingham in July.”
A host of Birmingham’s top restaurants will be offering visitors the chance to sample their delicious signature dishes at the Birmingham Bites Dining Pavilion at the BBC Good Food Summer Festival. The event runs from 13 – 17 at the NEC. The successful outdoor food and drink event, Taste of Birmingham, returns to the city from 5 - 8 July and kicks off with the Restaurant Awards, sponsored by Birmingham Bites. These give the city’s leading culinary experts the chance to be recognised for their gastronomic delights. Birmingham is the only city to hold Restaurant Awards as part of its Taste event.
