Football fan Rod Stewart can’t wait to take to the stage at the Ricoh Arena

The Scottish singing legend will be performing live in the stadium bowl on Tuesday, July 10 when he is being supported by rock band The Pretenders.

And Stewart, who has been a musical icon for four decades, is looking forward to performing his greatest hits set in Coventry – a city he played in the mid-60s.

He’s following in the footsteps of Bon Jovi and the Red Hot Chili Peppers who performed the first gigs at the arena in 2006.

He said: “I’ve heard great things about the Ricoh. I enjoy the atmosphere you get inside a stadium like this – especially in the middle of summer.

“I’ve played in Coventry before but that was many moons ago and my memories of that era are not too clear!

“But it’s a city I’ve always had great admiration for and I do have a lot of fans there. This is my only gig in the Midlands on this tour and I can’t wait to get out there and play.”

The former Faces singer has enjoyed an outstanding solo career with his Every Picture Tells A Story record regularly hailed as one of the top 100 albums of all time.

Hit singles include ‘Maggie May’, ‘Sailing’ and ‘Do Ya Think I’m Sexy’.

More recently, he has turned his attention to swing and has enjoyed a series of successes with the ‘Great American Songbook’ albums.

“My rock ‘n’ roll roots will never disappear but I’d always wanted to try out something different and I am fortunate that it’s been a big success.

“It’s helped me to reach new audiences at the same time as staying true to those fans who have been with me for 40 years.

“When it comes to the Ricoh Arena gig, people will get to hear a good mix of those tracks that have helped to put me where I am today.”

Tickets for the concert, priced at £65, are available by ringing 0870 400 0688 or logging on to www.LiveNation.co.uk with all tickets subject to booking fees.
