The White Swan, Edgbaston re-opens Friday 30 June and brings the country to the city

Dating back to 1714, The White Swan located on the Harborne Road closed its doors at the beginning of May to undergo a £750,000 facelift and will re-open on Friday 30 June as a totally non smoking pub and restaurant.

The work is another joint venture between Paul Salisbury, Paul Hales and David Singleton. The two Paul’s (of the Boot Inn Lapworth, the Baraset Barn Stratford upon Avon, Warks and Mortons Kitchen Bar & Deli in Dickens Heath, West Mids amongst others) have been working with David Singleton for three years on a national basis regenerating pubs with great success.

Managing Partner David Singleton says “We wanted to regenerate a pub close to the Birmingham city centre and felt The White Swan in the suburb of leafy Edgbaston would be ideal to bring “the country to the city”.

“The Cock Inn at Wishaw was one of our first projects and after the Freemasons in Hampstead London was awarded “Gastropub of the Year” by The Independent newspaper we have focused on projects in urban areas as well as rural locations.”

Open plan throughout, the dining area can seat 110 with the large bar holding a further 100. A wide selection of beers including the award winning cask ale Timothy Taylor Landlord, Amstel, Birra Moretti, Staropramen, Edel Weiss, Dom Kolsch and Leffe will be on tap. New French windows run the length of one wall opening out onto the terrace to seat 40 for al fresco dining and drinking.

“To reflect the country feel, natural materials are used for all our projects including real wood and slate floors and organic fabrics to complement the original characteristics of the buildings, plus fresh ingredients and healthy foods on the menu,” says David.

Jason Pressick, 29, previously Deputy Manager of the Cock Inn at Wishaw will be joined by head chef Chris Dale, 25, whose culinary experience includes the Barnt Green Inn and the Saxon Mill in Warwick.

Jason Pressick says: “Living in this area myself I am really looking forward to running The White Swan and getting to know the local residents. I am working with a great team of friendly staff who will help to make this a definite asset to Edgbaston offering a relaxed and inviting pub to meet up with friends for a drink or something to eat.”
