Vamaji Delivers for Selfridge
Vama – The Indian Room, London’s celebrated award-winning Indian restaurant is to make its first foray in to the retail sector by opening four concession counters and two restaurants within the four Selfridges stores across the UK.
Under the banner of ‘Vamaji’, the company’s takeaway division, the roll out will begin in Manchester on Monday 22nd May with both Selfridges Exchange Square and Trafford stores opening concessions. Birmingham Bull Ring will follow on Monday 29th May before Vamaji moves in to Selfridges flagship store on London’s Oxford Street on Monday 19th June.
Each of the four Selfridges food halls will have Vamaji counters selling a selection of award-winning hot and cold dishes created and developed by executive chef and managing director Andy Varma. In addition to the food hall counters, Vamaji will open a restaurant within Selfridges London Oxford Street store’s fourth floor Food Garden, offering the customer the opportunity to sit down and eat the awarding winning Indian cuisine in a relaxed and informal environment.
“Having Vamaji counters within the four Selfridges stores is an amazing endorsement Selfridges have placed in the quality of the food and in the strength of the Vamaji brand name,” says Arjun Varma, Vama co-founder and director. “Not only will this allow our London restaurant customers the opportunity to take a taste of Vama home with them but it will open up both the Midlands and North West of England to the Vamaji brand name and the amazing Indian food it represents.”
Ewan Venters, Selfridges, director of food and catering added “Vama were an obvious choice for Selfridges as they have an amazing reputation for great quality Indian foods and a real passion for innovation. We are proud to be working with Andy and Arjun.”
