Hyatt Regency Birmingham celebrates 20 years in the city

On 16 July 2010, the Hyatt Regency Birmingham celebrates its 20th anniversary.  The hotel currently employs over 300 employees from 33 different countries, who speak over 25 languages.

To celebrate this milestone anniversary, the hotel is focusing its efforts on giving back to the local community, supporting local charities and thanking the people who have made Hyatt the iconic hotel that it is today.

To kick-start the celebrations the hotel will host a charity ball in aid of the Edwards Trust, a local charity that supports bereaved families after the loss of a young family member. The event will take plece on 1 July with all proceeds donated to the trust.

In July and August, the hotel will turn back time and reduce room rates to match our original opening rates in 1990, offering over 1220 rooms at just £20 per person for room only, based on two people sharing.

Other promotions include, special 1990’s spa treatments, the waiver of the gym joining fee in July and August, and a 20 minute rapide two-course lunch for two priced from £20.

The Hyatt opened 16 July 1990 following an investment of £34 million. The iconic Hyatt Tower, 80 m high and covered with 3,000 sq m of blue and silver reflective glass, was the third tallest building in the city at the time and quickly nicknamed “Crystal Palace” by the media.  The hotel,  then owned by Birmingham City Council, Hyatt Hotels Corporation and Trafalgar House,  was built in conjunction with the International Convention Centre and set the bar for a new level of business and leisure hospitality in the Midlands.
