Drayton Manor Theme Park’s Apocalypse is Scariest Ride
Apocalypse, the terrifying drop tower attraction at Drayton Manor Theme Park, near Tamworth, Staffordshire, has been named the UK’s scariest ride by Channel Five’s The Gadget Show.
In the episode broadcast last night (Monday 25th May), presenter Ortis Deley used gadgets to measure his fear as he rode thrill rides at theme parks throughout the UK.
He wore a Vital Jacket, which monitored his heart rate, and a device to measure the strength of his grip for the duration of the rides. He also had a blood sample taken as soon as each ride finished to see how much adrenaline he had produced.
When the results were analysed, it was clear that Apocalypse scared Ortis more than any of the other rides, which will come as no surprise to visitors who have braved the ride.
Apocalypse is the world’s first stand-up drop tower, which takes people 54 metres into the sky before dropping at over 4Gs. Visitors can choose to ride either sat down, stood up, or with no footrest at all - so real thrill-seekers can hang from 54 metres with nothing to hold them but their shoulder restraints.
Ortis commented: “I had an amazing time testing all the rides and, as the results show, Apocalypse was definitely the scariest.“
Colin Bryan, Managing Director, Drayton Manor Theme Park, commented: “We’ve always known Apocalypse is a terrifying ride and it’s always been popular with our thrill-seeking visitors.”
