4-D Cinema Visitors Complain Of Seasickness
The National Sea Life Centre in Birmingham has had to get in a stock of anti-seasickness bracelets after complaints about queasiness from audiences in its new 4-D cinema.
Images of giant waves that seem to crash into the auditorium combined with special effects like seat vibrations and water spray are leaving some audience members searching for the sick bag!
The Centre has had to erect a warning sign that reads: “Our 4-D Cinema presentation can induce feelings of seasickness. Bracelets available on request.”
Manager Joseph Mann admitted that the new attraction’s developers may have been a little too successful in their efforts to create the illusion of an adventure on and beneath the high seas.
“We’re screening a special 3-D version of Planet Earth’s ‘Shallow Seas’ documentary,” he said.
“The underwater scenes don’t seem to be a problem, but the big crashing waves with rumbling seat movements, and dolphins leaping from the water towards the audience seems to be too much for some folk with delicate constitutions.”
Joseph added that only about half a dozen people had actually reported their symptoms but suspects many more sufferers would have been too embarrassed to say anything.
“We’ve put up the sign as a precaution in case any really poor sailors want to take precautions, and we’ve got in a supply of bracelets.”
So far it appears to be only grown-ups who have felt ill effects.
“Our younger visitors seem to be made of sterner stuff than their parents!” said Joseph.
