Lufthansa’s Birmingham to Hamburg service off to a flying start Six times a week to Germany’s second largest city
Lufthansa’s new service between Birmingham and Hamburg got off to a flying start with a party atmosphere welcoming passengers as the check-in desks opened.
The introduction of this six times a week service reinforces Lufthansa’s commitment to provide top quality full service air travel for passengers in the Midlands to Germany and beyond. Departures leave Birmingham at 1130 arriving in Hamburg at 1410 and depart Hamburg at 1015 arriving back to Birmingham at 1100 hours. Mrs Jennifer Dienst was one of the lucky passengers on the inaugural flight and was presented with champagne and flight tickets for anywhere on the Lufthansa network from Birmingham.
Peter Vella, Business Development Director said: “This new route to Hamburg extends Lufthansa’s portfolio, which has operated from Birmingham for over 20 years and complements its existing routes to Düsseldorf, Frankfurt and Munich. Hamburg is an excellent destination to visit, whether on business or leisure and boasts magnificent promenades, shopping malls and trademark canals. Hamburg has many parks and gardens making it Germany’s greenest city.”
Marianne Sammann, Lufthansa General Manager UK and Ireland, said: “Today is a very special day for Lufthansa and shows the importance of Birmingham within Lufthansa’s worldwide network. As well as offering our Birmingham passengers quick and easy access to Germany’s second largest city - Hamburg city centre is just 20 minutes from the airport, the service also increases the availability of onward connections as Lufthansa continues to develop Hamburg as a mini-hub to Central and Eastern Europe.
“Lufthansa’s passenger growth in the UK and Ireland has been exceptional for the past two years and it proves that huge numbers of travellers still want the added value they receive from a full service airline. They like to know the ticket cost includes good quality food and drink on board the aircraft as well as allowing them to check-in at the airport and take a reasonable amount of luggage at no extra cost. And, unlike many of our competitors, Lufthansa fares include all taxes and charges.”
For the short break traveller Hamburg offers a high quality of life and international flair in one of Germany’s most beautiful cities. As an international port, media centre, cultural stronghold and sporting venue Hamburg offers a variety of entertainment and attractions. It is also Germany’s greenest city with parks and green spaces, waterways and woods covering almost half of the area within the city boundaries. The city is loved for its contemporary scene as well as its cultural offerings and its stunning location, on the Elbe and Alster Rivers, provides visitors to the 1,200 year old city with plenty to do. In Hamburg, the word "boredom" is unknown thanks to its colourful activity in the St. Pauli entertainment district, unforgettable musicals, a night at the theatre, Michaelis Church (colloquially "der Michel") or the impressive harbour.
Prices start from £39.00 one way and £79.00 in Economy Class, inclusive of all taxes and charges. To book tickets please visit www.lufthansa.com.
