Trailblazing NEC Group helps lone parents back to work

Lone parents are being encouraged back to the workplace under a brand new joint initiative by The NEC Group Birmingham and Job Centre Plus.
The NEC is hosting a series of Option and Choices events in partnership with the Jobcentre Plus to offer advice to single parents ahead of new legislation which comes into force this Autumn.

New rules in November, mean that unemployed lone parents may, all depending on their circumstances, switch from receiving Income Support to Job Seekers Allowance when their youngest child reaches 11.

This means many will be actively seeking work.

The NEC Group will host the seminars at The ICC as part of its commitment to engaging with local communities and being an employer of choice.

A total of four seminars will be held over two days on May 20 and June 17.
Employees from The NEC Group who balance work commitments with bringing up children will be on hand to offer advice to visitors.

The forthcoming sessions follow the success of a previous session on April 15 at The NEC.
David Cooper of NEC Group Human Resources said: "We were delighted to get involved in this new initiative launched by Job Centre Plus who approached us for our help.

"The NEC Group have a host of opportunities available to suit everyone and our staff are more than pleased to talk about these and how they balance work with bringing up a family."

Birmingham and Solihull Jobcentre Plus have been piloting the Options and Choices events within a number of organisations in the Birmingham area since January.

The initiative is expected to be rolled will out nationally within the next couple of months.
In March The NEC Group won the Birmingham and Solihull Best Business Award for the Development of Work Life Balance.
