Britain’s Best Dish is back for a sizzling fourth series

Could Birmingham be the home of Britain’s Best Dish?

The nationwide TV cooking competition to find the country’s most mouth-watering dish is targeting the city in its search for gourmet grub.

Amateur chefs from Norfolk and Hampshire have triumphed in previous contests – so could 2010 be the year when Brum steps up to the plate?

The show’s producers have for the fourth time selected Birmingham as a location for their regional auditions, and hope to attract lots of local culinary talent to compete for the £10,000 cash prize.

“Birmingham is a melting pot of cultures – and that’s why we expect to see a huge range of great cooking when we visit in May”, said the show’s Series Producer Tom Gould

“Whether it’s Brummie Bacon Cakes or a classic Balti, …we’re confident of a very high standard, and a few surprises”.

The idea of the series – to be screened on ITV1 this summer – is to find the country’s tastiest home-grown recipes.

The ITV production team will be coming to Birmingham in May and asking people to come along and pitch their signature dish. The amateur cooks with the most potential will then be invited to London to take part in a “cook off” live in the studio.

“We want as many people as possible to come forward” said Gould. “There’ll be no cooking involved at this stage but we want everyone to bring an example of their dish, or a photo of it or something else that will make it stand out”

The auditions are being held on Saturday 15th May. Anyone interested in taking part should contact bestdish@itv.com or call 0871 62 66 222.

Calls cost 10p from a BT landline. Calls from other networks may be higher and from mobiles will be considerably more. Lines close for The Midlands - Friday 14th May at midday. You must be 14 or over to apply. Terms and Conditions at itv.com/terms
