FYSHnet celebrates the success of British Bangladeshis

FYSHnet, a business networking organisation that brings together the ‘new generation’ of British Bangladeshi entrepreneurs and professionals, held its Annual Banquet at Edgbaston’s prestigious Warwickshire County Cricket Club on 31st March.

Compared by Konnie Huq, the high profile event showcased a line up of eminent speakers in business including Iqbal Ahmed OBE, Enam Ali MBE, Syed Ahmed and Aktar Islam to an audience of over 600 guests from across the region and beyond.

Distinguished guests included His Excellency Dr Sayeedur Rahman Khan, the High Commissioner for Bangladesh; the newly appointed High Sheriff for West Midlands, Anita Bala; as well as senior officials from Advantage West Midlands, Business Link West Midlands and local government.

The Bangladeshi community is one of the youngest and fastest growing communities in the UK and there are over 38,300 Bangladeshis living in the West Midlands.

FYSHnet provides a vital network for an ever increasing number of second and third generation British Bangladeshis, who are involved in or diversifying into “non-traditional” sectors and positioning themselves into the mainstream arena.

Shihab Hossain, the Chairman of FYSHnet stated: “our community is thriving and makes an enormous contribution to the economy and to British society as a whole.

However, we are all facing challenges in our different sectors, and whilst the problems may be varied, we all have one thing in common.  We want to make our own way and become successful in our careers and / or business.

Tied with this common identity, FYSHnet felt that it was now time to build on some of the successes achieved, create opportunities to work together and to build stronger relationships within our community.”

The Birmingham event will act as a launch of FYSHnet’s presence in the region and of their web portal, www.fyshnet.co.uk, where like minded individuals can network, socialise, promote and support one another.
