Happy First Birthday to Thomas Land at Drayton Manor Theme Park

Drayton Manor Theme Park, near Tamworth, Staffordshire, has celebrated the first anniversary of its hugely popular Thomas Land™ attraction with a weekend of events on Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April.

There were plenty of party games and celebrations including a special birthday show in Thomas Land throughout the weekend, featuring The Fat Controller and other characters from Thomas Land.

No birthday would be complete without a cake, so Mrs Kyndley made Thomas one of her best sweet treats, which the Fat Controller cut on Saturday. He won’t be getting any fatter though, as the cake has been donated to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Visitors were also lucky enough to go home with their own gift from the theme park. Anyone who said “Happy Birthday” to one of the characters in Thomas Land received a voucher for £5 off their next visit to the theme park (terms and conditions apply).

For people who popped out of Thomas Land to visit the other attractions at the theme park, there was entertainment from the European breakdancing champions who thrilled the crowds with their skills throughout the weekend.

Bobo the Clown and friends were also clowning around bringing fun and laughter with their funny car show.

Europe’s first and only Thomas Land opened at Drayton Manor Theme Park last year. Since then, the attraction has been incredibly popular, and played a major part in over one million people visiting the theme park in 2008.

Thomas Land features 12 rides based on the loveable Thomas & Friends™ characters, such as Cranky’s Drop Tower and the Troublesome Trucks Runaway Coaster. There are also indoor and outdoor play areas, a restaurant and a shop.

Colin Bryan, Drayton Manor’s managing director, comments: “Thomas Land has been a hugely successful addition to the theme park. It has allowed us to continue to provide total family entertainment, with rides and attractions for people of all ages, and we are delighted with the fun it has provided to our visitors over the last year.”

The theme park’s new attraction for 2009 is a sensational 4D Cinema. The cinema allows the audience to watch a movie in 3D while seated in specially designed chairs, which react to scenes in the film by moving up and down, releasing sprays of water, bursts of air, bubbles and various smells.

Drayton Manor also boasts some of the biggest, wettest and scariest rides around, as well as a 15-acre zoo, which is home to over 100 animal species form all over the world.

The theme park won Large Visitor Attraction of the Year 2008 at the Heart of England Excellence in Tourism Awards (West Midlands region).
