Whoosh Takes to the Air
Birmingham International Airport today welcomes the announcement of a new airline starting operations from Birmingham. Whoosh will take to the skies offering passengers the opportunity to fly from Birmingham direct to Dundee from May 29th 2007.
Eleven weekly flights will operate to Dundee from Terminal 2. Prices start from £20.07, with flights twice daily during Monday through to Friday and once on a Sunday. The flights leave Birmingham at 0905 hours and arrive in to Dundee at 1030 hours, an ideal time to arrive for any business meetings. The return will leave Dundee at 1750 and return to Birmingham at 1915.
Whoosh’s flights will be operated by the Polish Airline, White Eagle Aviation, which is based in Warsaw-Okecie Airport and will be using an ATR42. The airline is privately owned.
White Eagle has been operating for 13 years and currently undertakes scheduled and charter flights in both cargo and passenger operations.
Alan Fullilove, CEO & President from White Eagle said: “This new association with Whoosh and Birmingham International Airport is fantastic news for the airline. Now that we can fly routes within EU member states we have fully taken advantage of this with our new routes between Dundee and Birmingham.”
Aden Murcutt, from Whoosh said: “We are extremely pleased to be providing this new service to Dundee which will eliminate the need for the over one hour drive from Edinburgh Airport, therefore reducing carbon emissions from cars. This route is fantastic news for inhabitants of Scotland as research has proved that over 50,000 passengers travelling on Edinburgh to Birmingham services come from Dundee or the regions of Angus and Fife - now passengers will have the convenience of using their local Scottish Airport.”
John Morris, Head of Corporate and Community Affairs commenting on the new route said: “Birmingham International Airport strives to be the UK’s best regional airport and adding yet another popular destination to our portfolio is another step towards this goal.
“Using these economic aircraft on a domestic hop helps cut down on fuel emissions and saves the car journey that many people have from some other Scottish airports to Dundee. We wish Whoosh every success.”
