BIA Welcomes A Speedy Flight From Warsaw
Birmingham International Airport today waved off Norwegian’s inaugural service between Warsaw and Birmingham, which looks set to be successful after an extra 1.5 million people visited Poland last year - an increase of 80% on the year before and the largest growth in Europe*.
Norwegian is meeting demand from business and leisure passengers with flights three times a week, increasing to four times a week from 4 May. The 737-300 aircraft seating 148 people will be stationed in Warsaw and will depart for Birmingham International Airport every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
The new route will connect the Midlands business community with the biggest country in central Europe and one of the fastest growing cities on the continent. Richard Dooner, Operations Manager at Birmingham Chamber of Commerce welcomed the inaugural flight into Birmingham saying: “Warsaw is ranked highly in various business categories. This new route to the Capital of Poland will provide Birmingham and wider Midland business communities with an array of trade and investment opportunities."
Leisure passengers can also take advantage of Warsaw’s culture, art and history with its plethora of art galleries, museums, theatres, historical sites and musical venues. Meanwhile, Motor sport fanatics, or those looking for a little danger and excitement, can enjoy the thrill of Speedway Racing - Poland’s biggest and most popular sport.
Chris Harris (AKA ‘Bomber’) is a British International Motorcycle Speedway rider for local team the Coventry Bees and for Polish team RKM Rybnik. Welcoming the inaugural flight from Warsaw he commented: “Speedway is a huge sport in Poland and becoming increasingly popular here too, so this new route is fantastic for racers and spectators alike. I race for a Polish team, so travel there frequently and will be there in July to represent Great Britain in the Speedway World Cup so it’s great that Speedway fans and racers like me can fly there from Birmingham.”
Commenting on the airlines new route, John Morris Head of Corporate Affairs for Birmingham International Airport, said: “We’re pleased to have this brand new route connecting Birmingham and Warsaw and are confident it will be popular with the business community, leisure visitors and, of course, speedway fanatics!”
