1000 seater conference venue now open at Edgbaston cricket ground
The skyline of Edgbaston Cricket Ground has dramatically changed this week, after the erection of its new 1,150 sq metre Grand Marquee.
Both visually-pleasing and well located, the marquee provides a unique conference and banqueting offering for Birmingham city and, the semi-permanent structure can accommodate up to 700 for banqueting or 1000 for conferences.
The marquee’s arrival marks the start of the ground’s ambitious £32m redevelopment and will be in situ for the next 18 months. Perfect for all occasions from weddings and black tie functions to conferences, the venue boasts a stylish reception area with private bar and extensive kitchen facilities. Edgbaston also welcomes outside caterers for guests who require specialist food.
Internally, the marquee has luxurious cloarkroom facilities, impressive ‘star cloth’ ceiling to add a touch of magic to any event and, a heating and cooling system to keep the venue at the perfect temperature no matter the weather.
Commenting, James McLaughlin commercial director at Edgbaston, said: “Although the marquee is a temporary suite to bridge the transition between the old facilities and the new banqueting suite, the specification and size has really wowed our clients.
“We are now taking bookings for 2010 and 2011, and we anticipate the venue will be a great success for regional businesses and consumers. In addition, we have an enviable location within easy reach of Birmingham New Street train station, Birmingham International Airport and the major road networks. In the near future, we envisage, being at in the heart of the UK, that we will enjoy a generous share of the conference and banqueting market.”
The marquee replaces the now demolished Pavilion Suite, the largest of the conference and banqueting rooms which could host 300 delegates. The redevelopment of the Edgbaston ground will see the construction of a brand new stand, set to increase visitor capacity to 25,000. In addition, a 500 cover banqueting suite and exclusive member’s area will be developed and is due to open in the summer of 2011.
