This week, Edgbaston Cricket Ground played host to over 45 prospective brides and grooms from the Asian community.

The visitors, who journeyed from across the Midlands region, attended an open day at the Ground’s newly erected 1,150 sq metre Grand Marquee.  The venue provides a unique offering for Birmingham city and can accommodate up to 700 people in a banqueting setting.  Although the marquee has only recently launched, it has already proved a particular hit with the Asian community as it provides flexibility in terms of outside catering options and event dressing companies.

James McLaughlin, commercial director at Edgbaston, explains: “After attending a number of high-profile wedding fayres across the country at the start of the year, we received an overwhelming positive response from the Asian community who felt the Grand Marquee would make the ideal wedding venue.

“Size, location and flexibility were all cited as reasons why the venue is so amenable to the Asian community, so we decided to have an event for Asian couples looking for their dream wedding location to have a look for themselves.  The response to the event has been fantastic, so much so that we have already taken a number of reservations for the marquee for Asian weddings this year!”

The event showcased seating and dining options, with the marquee specially dressed in traditional Asian regalia, from the bright colour theme and lavish grand stage to the ornamental decorations and stunning place settings.   

The marquee replaces the former Pavilion Suite and its arrival marks the start of the ground’s ambitious £32m redevelopment.

Boasting a stylish reception area with private bar and extensive kitchen facilities, as well as a cloakroom, the impressive ‘star cloth’ ceiling adds a touch of magic to any event.
